Daniel Salas

Daniel Salas

is a postdoctoral researcher in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at Dalhousie University. His work with CJV2 engages with the political economy and ecology of work and leisure at sea, as well as labor mobilities in the Anthropocene. It also encompasses community engagement, student training, and project administration. Originally from Cuba, with a background in journalism, cultural studies, and backpacking, Daniel studied social anthropology at Dalhousie, where his PhD research examined the everyday politics of value in Cuba’s agricultural communities. His broader interests include questions of value and money, environmental politics, and emancipation in the context of historical socialism, imperialism, and the politics of planetary boundaries.
