Rachel Derrah

is a graduate student in the Department of International Development Studies at Dalhousie University. Her research uncovers histories of the development of labour, capitalism and the colonial state across oceans and territories under supervision of Dr. Ajay Parasram. Passionate about public, political education, Rachel is a community organizer and co-founder of Seed & Spark Bookstore Co-op, who distribute books and zines to see the past and present critically while imaging better futures. This collective hosts events to foster grassroots dialogue and learning. Rachel works at Fernwood Publishing where a collaborative model of labour brings critical literature into being. Drawing upon her decade of experience as graphic facilitator, she brings a pedagogy to the CJV2 team of deep listening and visual note taking. Rachel is a settler, born and raised on Wolastoqiyik territory. She is of British, Irish and Scottish descent, living in Kjipuktuk, unsurrendered Mi’kmaq territory.
